Tarpley, a University of Missouri alumni, has lived in North Carolina for the past three years as a weekend evening anchor and multimedia journalist in Wilmington at WECT News. Before that, Tarpley rose through the ranks at KOMU 8 & Mid-Missouri CW in Columbia, Missouri. She started as a digital producer before leaving her position as a weekend morning anchor.

“I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined the team at WRAL!,” Tarpley said on social media. “While it was a short two-hour drive up I-40 for me, it feels like a big leap. I spent this past week training and shadowing some of the best reporters in the business, and everything you’ve heard about WRAL is true. The talent and tenacity of this team is unmatched.”

WRAL’s Ally Kadlubar, who joined the station in 2025, welcomed Tarpley over social media before announcing that she would soon be moving to the evening shift.

“The morning team is so lucky to have her!,” Kablubar wrote on Facebook. “It’s been so great showing her the ropes of morning reporting the past few days!”

Capital Broadcasting Company, the parent company for WRAL, has recently hired several new on-air talents for the station in addition to Tarpley. Bryant Maddrick, Avery Davis, Lance Wilhelm and Justin Lundy joined the NBC-affiliate station in September, The News & Observer reported.

The new hires come amid several anchors leaving the station and transitioning to new positions. “5 On Your Side” consumer advocate reporter Keely Arthur left earlier this month after her contract expired. She will start on the investigative unit at NBC 5 Chicago in November, The N&O reported.

WRAL anchor and reporter Eric Miller hosted his last show for the station on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Miller is now working for King 5 News in Seattle, Washington as a reporter and fill-in anchor, The N&O reported.

The N&O recently reported on other local news developments. CBS17’s meteorologist, Matthew Huddleston, shared his son’s journey in UNC hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, exclusively with The N&O.

The N&O reached out to Tarpley and will update this story once a response is received.
