Troopers responded at 12:28 a.m. to a crash on Highway 1 near Friendship Road, the State Highway Patrol said. The preliminary investigation showed that the driver of a 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedan traveled north at a high speed and lost control, driving off the right side of the roadway and overturning.

Three of the four people inside the Infiniti died, the State Highway Patrol said. The fatalities included the driver, Darius Stevens, 21, of Spring Lake, N.C., and two passengers — Marion Kim, 19, of Jacinto, Calif, and Ricky Rosas, 20, of Puerto Rico.

Stevens and Kim were not wearing seatbelts and were ejected from the Infiniti when it crashed, according to the State Highway Patrol. Rosas, who sat in the front passenger seat, had his seat belt on and remained in the car when it crashed.

A fourth passenger, who sat in the back right seat, is in serious but stable condition at WakeMed, the State Highway Patrol said. The agency determined that speed was a primary factor in the accident.
