The first crash was reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. on North Miami Boulevard near Braxton Street in East Durham, according to a Durham Police Department news release.

A 2015 black Honda Accord traveling northwest on North Miami Boulevard hit Armonte Donovan Self, 39, of Durham as he was lying in the roadway, police said. Self was pronounced dead at the scene.

A little over an hour later, police were called to N.C. 751, also known as Coach K Highway, and Erwin Road just west of Duke University, the police department said.

In that accident, a 2026 Kawasaki ZX636 motorcycle was traveling west on Coach K Highway when it hit the right side of a GoTriangle bus turning left from the highway onto Erwin Road, according to the news release. Police identified Henry Winch, 20, of Durham as the driver of the motorcycle.

Winch was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe he was speeding at the time of the crash, according to police.
