Here’s what we know about the Wilmington-area casting call and what to expect on the next season of the show.
Kimmie Stewart Casting shared its latest call for extras on Monday, July 6. Here’s a breakdown of the requirements it shared on Facebook for the first role, which asks for participation in a photo shoot related to the show:
Here’s a breakdown of what the casting company wants for the second role, called “gym guy”:
People who are interested in the roles are asked to send current photos, demographic information and availability to [email protected], WWAY first reported. For a full list of details the casting company is looking for, visit facebook.com/stewartcasting.
“The Director will be selecting these roles from photos,” the casting company wrote. “You MUST follow all photo & submission instructions exactly as listed OR YOU WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED!”
Previous casting calls for “R.J. Decker” have sought people willing to play roles ranging from a militia member to a doctor.
The first season of “R.J. Decker” premiered in March. It featured actor Scott Speedman, known for his roles on the shows “Felicity” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” The N&O previously reported.

“Speedman stars as R.J. Decker, a disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con who starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida,” ABC wrote on its website before the show made its debut. “The series follows him tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife and a shadowy new benefactor.”
Robert Doherty — series creator, showrunner and executive producer — in a past email to The N&O said though the show is set in the Sunshine State, the North Carolina “beaches and coastal areas give us a similar look and feel. Between the geography and the excellent crews, Wilmington was an easy decision.”
It turns out, the first season was “primarily filmed here in NC,” with much of the production concentrated in the New Hanover County region, Guy Gaster, director of the N.C. Film Office, told The N&O in March.
Then in May, “R.J. Decker” in a Facebook post announced it would come back for a second season but didn’t share a premiere date.
The new filming project is “expected to have a direct in-state spend of more than $40 million. The production is basing in North Carolina and anticipated that more than 3/4 of the show will be filmed in the state,” Gaster told The N&O via email Wednesday, July 8.
ABC representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for additional information on Wednesday, July 8.
