The Canes opted to include 53 ownership, management, coaching staff and players’ names on the Cup, just shy of the maximum allowed 55 names.

Owner Tom Dundon’s wife, Veruschka Dundon, along with their five kids, fill the first two lines of names as they are all engraved on the trophy. The family’s inclusion drew mixed reactions on social media, but the addition of family members who are deemed to be “involved with the team” isn’t new. In 2024 and 2025, Florida Panthers owner Vincent Viola included his wife, Teresa, and their three sons.

However, in 1984, when Edmonton Oilers owner Peter Pocklington had his father’s name added to the Cup, once the NHL found out his dad had no involvement in the team, they covered the name with x’s.

In the Canes’ section of the Cup, several front-office members and team staff follow ownership names before the list of 24 players. In keeping with tradition, captain Jordan Staal is the first player carved on the Cup, before the other players’ names appear in alphabetical order.

According to the NHL, a player is required to have appeared in at least 41 regular-season games with a team, or one Stanley Cup Final game, to be eligible to have his name engraved on the trophy. In 1994, a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the commissioner for permission to have players’ names put on the Stanley Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play. The management staff engraved on the trophy is determined by the team. However, it must be approved by the Hockey Hall of Fame and NHL.

The only player on the Stanley Cup who didn’t meet those requirements was Nicolas Deslauriers, who only featured in seven regular-season games for the Canes and did not appear in any games in the Stanley Cup Final, despite being rostered.
