A former assistant middle school track and field coach has been arrested on charges of possession of child sexual abuse material, media outlets report.

Durham Academy has not released the former coach’s name, and CBS17 reported the school has no information that any students are connected to the charges.

“We understand that this news may be deeply troubling. The individual is also a Durham Academy alumnus. He served as an assistant coach during the spring 2026 season,” according to an email sent to parents Tuesday, WRAL reported.
