Four new teams join the NC statewide high school football polls this week.
The rankings, for NCHSAA and NCISAA teams by classification, are sponsored by the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer of Raleigh. These are in addition to a Super 25 ranking of the state’s top teams, regardless of classification, and the Charlotte Observer has had its Sweet 16 regional poll since 1984 that awards the winner with a large banner to hang in its gym.

Here are the new teams this week:
— In 6A, Asheville (3-1) is in after a 38-35 win over Asheville School. Asheville’s lone loss was to 5A No. 4 Crest.
— Speaking of 5A, unbeaten Southeast Alamance (4-0) is in after a wild 55-52 win over Southern Alamance on Friday, when QB Tyler Jackson threw for more than 350 yards and four touchdowns.
— In 4A, Clinton (3-1) joins the ranking after wins over Wallace-Rose Hill (7-6) and East Bladen (55-26) the past two weeks.

— Wallace-Rose Hill (2-2) bounced back from its one-point loss to Clinton with a 28-6 win over Pender Friday and is back in the 3A poll. Its two losses are by a combined three points.
