Nine years after the killing, Chapel Hill police charged Salguero Olivares with Hedgepeth\u2019s killing. Police said they used DNA found at the apartment to identify relatives of Salguero Olivares, which led to him eventually being charged with Hedgepeth\u2019s murder in 2021.<\/p>\n

In 2024, prosecutors added burglary, rape and sexual offense charges,<\/a> alleging that Salguero Olivares broke into Hedgepeth\u2019s home and raped her.<\/p>\n
