Emergency crews searched Saturday night<\/a> for a swimmer who went underwater near a popular rock face on a lake<\/a> in the North Carolina mountains and never resurfaced.<\/p>\n

At 7 p.m., crews were \u201cactively searching\u201d an area west of the Duke Energy water intake at Linville Dam<\/a> on Lake James, according to Burke County Emergency Services. The dam is one of three that created the boating and fishing lake<\/a> in the early 1900s.<\/p>\n

Multiple callers reported seeing a person enter the water, officials said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe individual has not been seen since, prompting a large-scale response from local emergency agencies,\u201d officials with Burke County Emergency Services said on social media.<\/p>\n
