State Secretary of Health and Human Services, Jail and Detention Section.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Charlotte Observer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article315252177.html\" rel=\"Follow\" target=\"_blank\">81 jail inmates in the state died last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Twelve deaths were by suicide. Forty were listed as natural causes. One was attributed to injuries. Five were listed as either overdoses or possible overdoses.
