Parts of the Triangle, including in Raleigh and Durham, could see a forecasted high of 100 degrees with a heat index of 105 degrees on Thursday, June 18, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

A heat advisory is in effect Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the chance of severe storms with \u201cdamaging winds possible this afternoon, evening and overnight,\u201d according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

A cold front will move in Thursday evening, cutting off the heat, and bringing the potential for isolated storms in the Triangle.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost of the strongest storms are going to be to our north, across Virginia,\u201d she said. \u201cThat\u2019s where the greatest threat is going to be, but we could definitely see a few strong storms in our area. The main threat is going to be damaging straight-line winds of 60 miles per hour or greater.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orange, Durham and the northern half of Wake County has a \u201cslight\u201d risk, or level two risk, of severe storms Thursday afternoon, evening and overnight. The souther half of Wake County and southern portion of central North Carolina are under a \u201cmarginal\u201d risk, or level one risk, of severe storms during that same time frame.<\/p>\n

\u201cScattered storms are expected from late this afternoon through late tonight,\u201d according to the National Weather Service. \u201cA few storms may produce damaging wind gusts over 60 mph, and isolated large hail is also possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those isolated storms aren\u2019t related to Tropical Storm Arthur off the Gulf of Mexico that will bring life-threatening flooding to parts of Texas before weakening, moving northeast.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom that point on it is just going to be a rainmaker,\u201d Hartfield said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a nasty rainmaker for southeast Texas, Louisiana and into Mississippi. I don\u2019t want to downplay that for them, because it will be a significant rain for them. For us, it looks like it\u2019s going to mostly be skirting by our south. It may clip southeastern North Carolina, so if you\u2019re at the beach in the south, southeast coast of North Carolina, it may be a little bit wet, but overall, the rainfall will be south of the Triangle. That\u2019s too bad because we are in a drought<\/a>, and we could use the rainfall at this point.\u201d<\/p>\n
