{"id":2804,"date":"2026-06-19T21:35:01","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T21:35:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/durhammovinghub.com\/?p=2804"},"modified":"2026-06-19T21:35:01","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T21:35:01","slug":"patrons-of-the-arts-couple-found-dead-on-side-of-california-highway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/durhammovinghub.com\/?p=2804","title":{"rendered":"Patrons of the Arts Couple Found Dead on Side of California Highway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">A husband and wife well regarded within the San Francisco arts community were found dead inside their running vehicle this week.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/durhammovinghub.com\/?p=2802\">Curated clothing pop-ups are trending in the Triangle. 5 to visit this weekend<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The California Highway Patrol confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-06-18\/judith-wylie-sheldon-found-dead-in-running-car-on-5-freeway\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>The Los Angeles Times<\/i><\/span><\/a> that an officer spotted a Jeep Compass pulled over on the right shoulder of Interstate 5, north of Fawndale Road in the city of Redding, California, on Monday, June 15, around 5:46 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Inside the vehicle were the bodies of <strong>Judith Sheldon<\/strong>, 84, and <strong>Wylie Sheldon<\/strong>, 86.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;A second CHP officer arrived on scene, and both officers rendered medical aid to the parties along with medical personnel,&#8221; the agency said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The couple were pronounced dead at the scene. While a cause of death has yet to be revealed, authorities said it &#8220;appears to be medically related.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The temperatures in Redding that day were above normal, with a high of 109 degrees. A representative from the National Weather Service told <i>The Los Angeles Times<\/i> that this was &#8220;near record-breaking heat,&#8221; but couldn&#8217;t confirm if that was related to the couple&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A spokesman for the Shasta County Sheriff&#8217;s Office revealed to <em>Us Weekly<\/em> that postmortem examinations are in the process of being scheduled. They stopped. They both just died there. The entire thing is so bizarre. We&#8217;re still in a state of shock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Judith was the daughter of Oscar-winning director <strong>William Wyler<\/strong>, who helmed classic films such as <i>Ben-Hur<\/i>, <i>Roman Holiday<\/i>, <i>Mrs. Miniver<\/i> and <i>The Best Years of Our Lives<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The California resident and her husband are being remembered for their passion for the artists and desire to always pay it forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;They were so dear and devoted to one another,&#8221; Anita Monga, the artistic director of the San Francisco Silent Film Festival &#8211; of which Judith served as its board chairman &#8211; told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/travel\/article\/san-francisco-patrons-dead-22310168.php\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>SFGate<\/i><\/span><\/a>. &#8220;I know that being part of San Francisco was very important for them. They were in a position to be supportive of the arts.
