Last week, Danielle wrote about North Carolina choosing not to participate in the Great American State Fair<\/b>. The state cited budget constraints as the reason for opting out.<\/p>\n

Freedom 250<\/b>, a Trump-affiliated group<\/b> organizing the event, wrote that the Great American State Fair is supposed to honor \u201cthe people, traditions, innovations and spirit\u201d that make our country great. It begins Thursday and runs until July 10.<\/p>\n

Each state gets its own pavilion to design and show off its culture.<\/p>\n

Despite that, Lorie Khatod<\/b>, the state lead for the North Carolina pavilion at the fair, wrote in a statement that citizens, organizations and businesses have \u201ccome together to ensure North Carolina is represented during the nation\u2019s celebration of America\u2019s 250th birthday.\u201d<\/p>\n

Khatod, who works as a strategic consultant, wrote that she was \u201cdeeply disappointed\u201d by Gov. Josh Stein<\/b>, who she said \u201cchose not to have North Carolina represented at such a significant and historic celebration.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLike so many proud North Carolinians, I felt compelled to step forward, volunteer, and help ensure our state had a place at this national event,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Khatod wrote that the Wright Brothers\u2019<\/b> first flight will be featured, as well as the state\u2019s racing heritage.<\/p>\n

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources said it was grateful to Childress Racing,<\/b> a racing car organization, and Spevco<\/b>, a manufacturing company, \u201cfor representing the state\u201d at the fair.<\/p>\n

The DNCR added that it asked for funds from the state legislature to participate in the fair, but did not receive any.<\/p>\n
