England soccer player Jordan Henderson<\/strong> has been hospitalized after suffering an injury<\/a> while celebrating the country’s historic World Cup win over Mexico.<\/p>\n

After the Sunday, July 5, match in Mexico City, Henderson, 36, and the players went over to their fans behind a goal to sing “Wonderwall.” (The Oasis track has become England’s unofficial anthem during the iconic tournament.)<\/p>\n

While celebrating, Henderson fell over an advertising board and remained down on the field. England captain Harry Kane<\/strong> saw what happened and motioned for first responders to assist.<\/p>\n

“Hendo just fell over there and I think he’s OK, something to do with his arm,” Kane told BBC<\/a> after the freak accident.<\/p>\n

As a huddle was formed around him, Henderson began receiving medical treatment – including oxygen – before he was removed from the field on a stretcher.<\/p>\n

“Mixed feelings also because I’m exhausted, of course, and emotional, but also sad because Jordan got injured,” England coach Thomas Tuchel<\/strong> told reporters after the game, per NBC News<\/a>. “He injured his wrist. He’s at the moment in the hospital, so it’s a quite serious injury. And it just doesn’t fit to the evening that Jordan is now not with us. I don’t know the procedure, what’s going on. I just did the press and the doctor told me that he’s in [the] hospital.”<\/p>\n

ESPN reported that Henderson stayed in Mexico City on Sunday with a member of the England entourage instead of flying back to the team’s training set-up in Kansas City, Missouri. One day later, The Athletic<\/em> reported that Henderson would miss the remainder of the tournament and undergo surgery on his wrist.<\/p>\n

“He is in a bit of bother, but our medical team have everything under control,” England player Jude Bellingham<\/strong> said, referring to Henderson, per The Athletic<\/a><\/em>. “I’m not best to give too much detail as I do not know much going on, but everyone was there to support him.”<\/p>\n

While Henderson did not play against Mexico, he received a yellow card late in the game after becoming involved in a clash between Bellingham and Mexico’s Johan Vasquez.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After reigning victorious against Mexico on Sunday, England will now face off against Norway. The two teams are set to play at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami at 5 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 11.<\/p>\n

Henderson, for his part, celebrated the team’s success in the tournament via Instagram<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“We keep building!! Into the next round \ud83d\udcaaCongrats @harrykane all time leading scorer \ud83e\udee1\ud83d\udc4f,” Henderson wrote in June.<\/p>\n
