An ally of Sen. Mitch McConnell is denying some speculation circulating social media surrounding McConnell\u2019s health condition after around three weeks of hospitalization.<\/p>\n

Scott Jennings, a former McConnell adviser and conservative political commentator on CNN, is part of a handful of people saying that they\u2019ve spoken with McConnell directly since being admitted into the hospital. In a Tuesday social media post<\/a> on X, Jennings said that he spoke to McConnell for almost 20 minutes on a variety of topics.<\/p>\n

Later on CNN<\/a>, Jennings sought to disprove some of the speculation as McConnell\u2019s office shares few details on his hospitalization.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve seen rumors about him being dead, or brain-dead, or his body is being hidden somewhere,\u201d Jennings said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen all kinds of crazy things on the internet that\u2019s obviously not true because he picked up the phone and called me.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when asked on CNN if he thinks McConnell is still capable of serving as senator, Jennings didn\u2019t directly answer the question. He also said he doesn\u2019t know why McConnell is hospitalized.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came away feeling he was staying on top of the news,\u201d Jennings said.<\/p>\n

McConnell, 84, was hospitalized June 14, but his team did not give details about his condition at the time, only saying he was receiving \u201cexcellent care.\u201d Last week, his office confirmed that McConnell was still recovering in the hospital after it was unclear if he was still hospitalized.<\/p>\n

Jennings isn\u2019t the only person who has said they recently spoke with McConnell. Spokespeople for<\/a> Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Whip John Barrasso, both Republicans, have said the Senate leaders talked with McConnell on the phone this week.<\/p>\n

Kentucky Rep. Brett Guthrie, who represents Kentucky\u2019s 2nd Congressional District, said that he has texted with McConnell but hasn\u2019t spoken to him directly, according to WLKY in Louisville<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know much more than what the public knows,\u201d Guthrie said. \u201cI know there were some rumors that came out \u2026 And I think those rumors were obviously false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some are still skeptical of these calls, including Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, who posted on X Tuesday night<\/a> to mock Jennings\u2019 social media post.<\/p>\n

\u201cI spoke to McConnell for about 20 minutes this morning,\u201d Massie said. \u201cHe said we should end the war with Iran, quit giving aid to Israel, stop spying on Americans without a warrant, and he\u2019s really sorry about how my primary turned out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who is McConnell\u2019s wife, also issued a statement following her return to the U.S. after she traveled to China while McConnell was hospitalized.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family\u2019s philanthropic endeavors,\u201d a spokesperson for Chao said. \u201cDuring the trip, she met with a number of people, including the US ambassador. The Senator\u2019s health did not warrant an immediate return to the US.\u201d<\/p>\n
