\u201cCivilian watercraft must never beach or drop anchor on or near restricted areas that are posted with warning signs,\u201d Cummings said in the release.<\/p>\n

That means no clamming, oystering or crabbing, military officials warn. Visitors also can\u2019t fish with bottom-dragging nets, anchor, stop or even leave your boat, Cummings said.<\/p>\n

Browns Inlet is still open, and boaters can move through it without stopping during \u201cperiods of nonmilitary use,\u201d according to the military\u2019s Browns Island webpage.<\/a> But officials still warn that because of the unexploded bombs, boaters shouldn\u2019t make contact with the bottom of waterways.<\/p>\n

Violating the military\u2019s warnings could mean a $5,000 fine, a six-month prison sentence \u2014 or both.<\/p>\n
