A friendly bet from our Mayor Janet Cowell to Shelley Berkley, Mayor of Las Vegas. May the best team win the 2026 Stanley Cup Final! Let’s go Canes! | @Canes @JanetCowell @MayorOfLasVegas @NHL @CityOfLasVegas pic.twitter.com/GMCCCyNs4K

She will be the recipient of a sequined Carolina Hurricanes jersey should Raleigh’s NHL team win the Stanley Cup, she said.

That was one part of her friendly wager with Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley. The Hurricanes play the Vegas Golden Knights in professional hockey’s biggest series, with the first game at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Lenovo Center in Raleigh.

The sequined jersey is part of the wager because “Vegas is good at bling” Cowell said.

If Las Vegas wins, their mayor will be getting barbecue, Cowell said.

Berkley accepted a bet with Cowell in a video posted on her city’s social media, offering different terms.

She said if Vegas wins, Cowell should wear a Golden Knights jersey at a Raleigh City Council meeting.

“If by some chance you guys win, I will wear your jersey,” she said. She also offered a Las Vegas gift basket “to die for.”

But, she advised Cowell, “never bet against Vegas.”
