This will be Davis’ second television stint in his career. He previously worked as a college basketball analyst for ESPN for seven years before joining Roy Williams’ staff at North Carolina as an assistant in 2012. He remained in that coaching job until he took over for Williams as head coach following the 2020-21 season.
Davis guided the Tar Heels to the 2022 NCAA title game, but the rest of his tenure was mired with inconsistency. Davis was fired by UNC after No. 6 seed UNC’s 82-78 overtime loss to No. 11 seed VCU in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Tournament. It marked the first back-to-back first-round exits for UNC since 1985.
Davis will make his first studio appearance on Nov. 5, the release said, as part of a triple-header on the network featuring games from the Big East and Big 12 on truTV and HBO Max.

It’s Davis’ first foray back into the college basketball world since his UNC tenure ended after five seasons in March.
North Carolina hired Michael Malone, a former NBA Championship-winning coach with the Denver Nuggets, as Davis’ replacement in April.
