“The Cleveland Guardians announced today’s game against the Detroit Tigers has been postponed due to inclement weather and will be rescued as part of a split doubleheader on Friday, September 4,” a Sunday, June 14, social media statement from the team read, revealing the new game would start at 2:10 p.m. ET.
The Guardians were also scheduled to play the Tigers on September 4 – that game will now begin at 7:10 p.m.
“Fans holding tickets dated June 14 can use their exact ticket to enter the 2:10 game on September 4 and do not have to exchange,” the Sunday statement explained. “If fans are unable to attend the makeup game on September 4, they will be able to make an exchange based on how their tickets were purchased.”
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who hails from Cleveland Heights, was scheduled to attend Sunday’s game to celebrate his minority ownership stake in the MLB team.
“I have so much love for this city. I say it all the time: I’m just a kid from the Heights living the dream,” Kelce, 36, told ESPN last month of his new position. “I credit every good thing in my life to Cleveland and being raised here with the values and the people and the work ethic. Cleveland Heights is such a diverse and dynamic place.”

He continued at the time, “Every friend, neighbor, teacher and teammate – they all made me the man I am today. It just fueled such a deep appreciation for life and community and service. That mentality of Cleveland against the world runs deep. I’ve been lucky enough to have a front-row seat to good ownership in my career, and I know the best teams prioritize culture. Everyone is there to play their role, and right now, I’m here to observe and learn and really to support the team and the city when and where I can.”
It is not known whether Kelce, a self-proclaimed “die-hard” Guardians fan, will attend the rescheduled game on September 4.
Just hours before the planned game, Kelce and his fiancée, pop star Taylor Swift, enjoyed a date night at the Broadway production of Oh, Mary! in New York City.
“Thank you for supporting the American Theatre, Taylor and Travis,” the show’s official Instagram captioned backstage pics of the Broadway cast with the engaged couple. “It was an HONOR to have you with us 💛.”
