The state Economic Investment Committee on Wednesday approved a $3.2 million Job Development Investment Grant for the development, which the company can receive over 12 years if it meets hiring and investment targets.
Local governments in Sanford and Lee County have offered incentives totaling about $18.2 million.
“Steris is making a major investment in North Carolina, which reinforces our state’s reputation as a powerhouse in the life sciences industry,” Stein said in a Wednesday press release.

Steris employs more than 18,000 people across 250 locations in more than 35 countries. The average salary for the Lee County center is $68,704, which exceeds the county’s average of $59,903, according to the press release. These new jobs could create an annual payroll impact of more than $23 million for the region.
Steris said it would be moving manufacturing operations to North Carolina from St. Louis, Missouri, and Plymouth, Minnesota.
Steris already has processing facilities in Concord and Durham, which employ 186 people, according to the company’s website.
