Akira opened its first location in 2002 as a women’s clothing boutique in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Since then the brand has expanded to over 40 stores in 18 states, an e-commerce website and wholesale options for their full line of women’s clothing, footwear and accessories, according to the website.
The company recently opened a location in Charlotte in the Concord Mills Mall behind the AMC theater. The location will be celebrating their grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 8 a.m.

The N&O originally reported in May that Furniture World was closing their Crabtree location to move into a bigger location. The store hosted a going out of business sale that lasted until late July.
The N&O also reported that toy store, Pop Mart, opened its first North Carolina location in the Crabtree Valley Mall in late July. Crabtree also welcomed Five Guys Burgers & Fries in July.
