According to the interior design magazine House Beautiful, High Point University has some of the best dorm rooms in the country.
High Point made the magazine’s list of the top eight schools with the nicest on-campus living experiences. They singled out Panther Commons, where students get full-size beds, private bathrooms with lighted mirrors and glass shower doors, microwaves, and full-size refrigerators.
Panther Commons, which cost $95 million to build, is also equipped with study rooms, fitness studios, and restaurants, “including Kazoku, one of HPU’s immersive fine-dining learning labs,” the university wrote.
Students can also live in High Point’s on-campus tiny homes, which are arranged in a “small neighborhood.” The 500-square-foot homes house one student and include a full bathroom, galley kitchen and living area.
UNC Wilmington has a new 78-foot catamaran. The school will use the boat to advance the school’s “coastal and marine research, education and stewardship.”

The boat cost $7.5 million, according to Sydney Bouchelle, spokesperson for the university. It’s called the R/V Osprey, and it joins the R/V Seahawk, which the school says is used “for educational cruises, dive support and survey work.” UNCW also has various smaller boats in its fleet.
Researchers will use it for “scientific missions,” collecting data and installing and checking on research buoys. It will also support field-based research projects, the school said.
“For UNCW students, access to the R/V Osprey means greater opportunities to participate directly in research and gain practical experience at sea,” Chancellor Aswani Volety said in a statement. “These experiences are invaluable in preparing graduates for careers in science, environmental stewardship and maritime industries.”
