A 30-inch water main broke in Cary on Monday morning, The News & Observer previously reported. It triggered a system pressure advisory in the Town of Cary that caused Wake to dismiss 30 schools in Cary and Morrisville.
“This decision was made out of an abundance of caution and due to the large number of schools affected,” the school district said on its website. “Details about dismissal times for individual schools will be forthcoming to affected families shortly via email and phone messages.”

During a system pressure advisory, consumption of tap water is not advised. Affected customers are advised to boil water used for drinking and cooking for one minute or use bottled water while the advisory is in effect.
Water fountains and bottle filling stations are closed.
“While the Town of Cary has reported water pressure being restored, additional testing will need to occur to ensure the safety of consuming the water,” the district said. “The town anticipates having those test results available by Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 3 a.m.”
