The bars — Teets on Glenwood Avenue and Lucky B’s on nearby Tucker Street — are currently zoned to allow up to seven stories of building height and a mix of commercial, residential and office uses.
The rezoning proposal was first reported by Triangle Business Journal.
The meeting notice posted on the city website by real estate attorney Hunter Winstead, who represents developers in rezonings, says “the purpose of the rezoning is to allow for the potential mixed-use development of the site.”
The properties are in a pre-submittal phase, according to city spokesperson Julia Milstead. That means a neighborhood meeting has been set for Sept. 21 at 5:30 p.m. at the Halifax Community Center on Halifax Street
“A neighborhood meeting is required before a property can be requested to be rezoned,” Milstead wrote in an email to The News & Observer on Tuesday.

Teets has been open for about five years and has become a home for Canes watch parties and celebrations.

It was named for the Battaglias’ grandfather, Sam “Teets” Battaglia, a member of the Chicago mafia. “Teets” comes from when Sam Battaglia threatened to bust in another mobster’s teeth, according to the bar’s website.
Bates Battaglia played as a left-winger for the Canes, including during their 2002 Stanley Cup run. He and Anthony won CBS’ “The Amazing Race” in 2013.
More recently, the Canes’ current left-winger Jordan Martinook made Teets the first stop for the Stanley Cup when the team returned to Raleigh after winning it in Las Vegas in June.
Bates Battaglia opened Lucky B’s in 2005, according to an interview he gave to VoyageRaleigh last year.
It’s unclear what the Battaglias’ plans are for the two adjacent plots of land.
The total assessed tax value of both properties is nearly $2.2 million, according to online property records.
Across the street from Teets, developers are building Highline Glenwood. At 37 stories, it will be the largest residential tower in Raleigh when it opens in 2028.
