The Durham Police Department is investigating a homicide less than two miles east of downtown Tuesday night.

Police responded at 6:48 p.m. to the 900 block of Eva Street and found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders tried life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene.
The shooting was an isolated incident posing no further danger to the public, police said. They have not released the man’s name or any information about a possible suspect.
As of Sept. 19, a total of 140 people had been shot in Durham, 18 of them fatally.

That compares to 125 people shot by that time last year, when 23 people had died.
