Week 1 of the N.C. high school football season took awhile, running Thursday to Monday, but when the dust settled, there were lots of changes in the statewide class-by-class rankings.

There are 13 new teams this week. There is also a new poll for NCISAA 8-man football teams.
The polls are sponsored by The Charlotte Observer and News & Observer of Raleigh. The media companies also sponsor a regional ranking in Charlotte, the 42-year-old Sweet 16 poll, and The Super 25 ranking of the state’s best teams, regardless of classification.

In this week’s classification rankings, all the No. 1 teams held onto their spots. A couple teams made big jumps: Mallard Creek from 4 to 2 in 8A; Seventy-First from 6 to 2 in 6A; and Cannon School from 7 to 2 in the private school rankings.
