Volaris will begin flying between Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Guadalajara three days a week on Oct. 16. It will fly the route on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using a 238-seat Airbus 321 Neo.

Guadalajara, the capital of the western Mexican state of Jalisco, becomes the third city in Mexico with nonstop air service from RDU, after Cancun and Mexico City.

“The nonstop service to Guadalajara on Volaris will link two dynamic and innovative regions and create new opportunities for business, collaboration and growth,” Michael Landguth, RDU’s president and CEO, said in a written statement Thursday. “It will also strengthen connections between our vibrant communities by making it easier for Triangle-area travelers to visit family and friends.”

RDU is one of several new routes that Volaris announced this week, along with nonstops from Guadalajara to Boston and Nashville.

“The new nonstop service reinforces Volaris’ commitment to expanding connectivity between Mexico and the United States while giving our customers more convenient options for traveling between two important markets,” Holger Blankenstein, the company’s executive vice president for commercial and operations, said in a statement. “Guadalajara is also our largest hub, providing travelers with access to destinations around the world. With this new route, Volaris is bringing people closer, supporting tourism and business, and strengthening Guadalajara’s role as one of our most important gateways.”

Volaris becomes the 19th airline doing business at RDU, while Guadalajara becomes the 15th international destination.
