The Tar Heels have received a commitment from Cameron Fens, a 7-foot center from South Dakota. The transfer was first reported Friday by On3.com.
Fens, a senior from Dubuque, Iowa, averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds a game for Coyotes, who were 16-16 last year. Fens was named first-team All-Summit League.
Fens had 12 double-doubles during the season, with 31 points and 15 rebounds in a game against Kansas City. He averaged 1.5 blocks a game and was selected for the conference’s all-defensive team.

Fens is the sixth portal transfer and the new 11th player in the program as Malone transitions from NBA basketball to college basketball after replacing Hubert Davis as UNC’s coach.
Fens, listed at 255 pounds, spent two seasons at Illinois-Chicago before transferring to South Dakota.
