In 1926, Archie Benson, a farmer, was arrested on a charge of assault on his father and two counts of alleged incest with his mother and sister. Officers made the arrest on information given that detailed Benson being caught having relations with his mother by his father when a fight ensued.
After his arrest, Benson’s mother came to the courthouse to declare her son’s innocence and share her belief that he was framed in order to get him out of the way so that others could gain access to his money-making crops.
Benson’s mother also told authorities that she had endured abuse from her husband throughout the marriage and did not intend to live with him again after the allegations against her son. She denied that her son had relations with her daughter.
