A man is in custody after allegedly killing his father at their home in northern Durham on Wednesday night.

Police responded just before 6 p.m. to a stabbing on Old Oxford Road north of Interstate 85 and found an injured man who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mauricio Yael Reyes-Rubio, 24, of Durham, is now accused of fatally stabbing his father, 46-year-old Hugo Reyes Gasca, according to police.
He faces a felony charge of first degree murder in his father’s death, along with a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill for allegedly attacking his father’s wife with a knife, according to public records.

Reyes-Rubio appeared in court Thursday, where a judge denied him bail.
As of Aug. 22, there had been 22 criminal homicides in Durham this year, according to Durham Police Department statistics.
That compares to 25 homicides by the same time in each of the previous two years.
