A woman was killed and another injured Saturday afternoon after someone shot into their car in South Durham, according to the city’s police department.

Police said that around 1:30 p.m. Saturday, a woman was driving south on Revere Road toward Sedwick Road when shots were fired into her vehicle.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a woman, was injured in the shooting and taken to a local hospital for treatment. Neither woman has been publicly identified by the Durham Police Department.

Police have not said what led to the shooting but say there is no threat to the public. The area is in Durham’s Parkwood neighborhood, just south of Interstate 40 and N.C. Highway 54.

This incident adds to the city’s gun violence this year. As of Sept. 5, there had been 366 shootings in Durham where 131 people had been shot, according to the department’s recent data. Seventeen of those shootings were fatal.
