UNC basketball coach Michael Malone has bolstered first basketball roster with a 7-foot, 2–pound center.

The Tar Heels have received a commitment from Cameron Fens, a transfer from South Dakota. The commitment was first reported Friday by On3.com.
Fens, a senior from Dubuque, Iowa, averaged 14.4 points and 8.7 rebounds a game for Coyotes, who were 16-16 last year. Fens was named first-team All-Summit League.
Fens had 12 double-doubles during the season, with 31 points and 15 rebounds in a game against Kansas City. He averaged 1.5 blocks a game and was selected for the conference’s all-defensive team.

Fens is the sixth portal transfer and the 11th new player in the program as Malone transitions from NBA basketball to college basketball after replacing Hubert Davis as UNC’s coach. The Tar Heels filled their last open roster spot with Fens, one of the college athletes benefitting from a court ruling in Colorado that will allow those in the class of 2022 a fifth year of eligibility.
Fens joins a rebuilt frontcourt that also includes 7-footer Sayon Keita, 6-11 Alexandros Samodurov and 7-footer Cade Bennerman.
