Rachelleigh Galasso, 33, pleaded guilty Wednesday to four charges of negligent child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to court documents. In exchange for her plea, two charges of aiding and abetting were dismissed.
Galasso and her ex-partner, Lacy Hocutt Jr., were arrested in April after four of their children were allegedly neglected enough that they required ongoing medical care, The News & Observer previously reported. Hocutt is also accused of the ongoing sexual abuse of one of the children.
Galasso said in court documents Hocutt was an abusive partner who threatened and assaulted her, keeping her from the outside world by destroying her electronics. Though Galasso could face more than 30 years in prison on the charges she pleaded guilty to, Judge Vinston Rozier Jr. approved the state’s request to continue her sentencing until a later date, according to court documents. She remained jailed with her bail set at $2 million secured as of Thursday afternoon.
As part of her plea arrangement, Galasso also agreed to testify against Hocutt if needed, according to her plea transcript. A trial date has not yet been set for Hocutt, who also remains jailed.
