Disney has revealed a new peek at the themed development it plans to bring to Pittsboro in the coming years.

Storyliving by Disney, the real-estate development branch of The Walt Disney Company, unveiled the planned entryway to the Asteria community — a 1,500-acre themed neighborhood slated to start welcoming residents in 2027.
Like the rest of the development, the entrance was designed by Disney Imagineers — who are also the masterminds behind the Disney theme parks — and aims to pay homage to the “beauty and character” of the North Carolina Piedmont.
“That same attention to detail will continue throughout Asteria, where landscape, architecture, and community gathering spaces are being designed to encourage exploration and connection with a touch of Disney magic,” Disney spokesperson Karlee Dutton wrote in a blog post. “Across the community, residents will find design details and shared spaces that reflect the natural setting and invite everyday moments of discovery.”
The entryway will feature a moon gate — an arched gateway that will frame the rest of the development’s landscape as residents enter the property, Dutton said. A model of the planned entrance shows the word Asteria etched into rock beside the arch.
Disney also plans to source metavolcanic rock, quartz and rhyolite for the entrance, which Dutton said will be built by dry stacking to “connect the entryway to the land that inspired it.”

“The land helps set the stage with topography that rises just beyond the entry before gently falling, creating a subtle reveal,” Dutton wrote.
The newest design comes just months after Disney revealed its “Second Star Club” — an amenity bundle aimed to serve as the social nexus of the neighborhood, offering dining, fitness and event spaces all inspired by Disney’s 1953 classic “Peter Pan.”
Disney first announced plans for Asteria in 2023, and the development is currently under construction northeast of the U.S. 15-501-U.S. 64 interchange. The construction is set to take place in nine phases, adding 4,000 homes between Chatham Park’s Mosaic mixed-use district and the Haw River.
Asteria is the second Disney community to begin construction, with the Cotino community in Rancho Mirage, California currently selling homes for up to $2 million.
